how do i receive the right training place? – application tips from melina

This is a question that many school leavers ask themselves every year. I also have asked myself this question. But that’s where the fun begins. Because this question has given rise to many more questions and, of course, also to uncertainties.

Melina knows how to do it ?. She is completing her training as an industrial clerk at keeeper

I would like to give you a few tips on how to find the right training place for you.

where can i find addresses for open training places?

Finding open training places is easier than you might think at first. After you have chosen your desired profession, you can contact various agencies:

    • • You can also contact the employment agency. They will help you to find a suitable training company. The employment agency also gives you helpful tips on how to apply and how to proceed with your application, which may give you an advantage over other applicants.
    • • Job exchanges and search engines will also help you to obtain information. You can simply enter your desired profession on the Internet and compare different training professions. This gives you a quick and good overview.
    • • On the one hand, there are often nice and informative job fairs in your area. The advantage is that you have direct contact with the companies, can ask questions and get a first insight. There will certainly also be a brochure with the names and addresses of the exhibiting companies. The more information you can gather in advance, the easier your decision will be.
    • • keeeper also presents itself at regional training fairs, that’s how I got my first contact to keeeper. Afterwards you could register for a taster day at keeeper to get to know the company better.

how do i get in contact with keeeper?

You can contact companies by phone, email or personally. The personal contact is usually made through job fairs, where you can also get contact information, which you can also contact if you have further questions. Usually this includes an email address and a telephone number.

how do i send the documents? what do i have to consider?

The sending of the documents can be done in different ways. The documents can be sent by letter post, by email, but also via a web portal where the documents should be uploaded.

Sometimes the application is sent as a complete PDF document, sometimes individual documents are uploaded. The company often mentions a preferred option. Otherwise I would ask for this.

To keeeper I have sent my application documents by email. I sent the documents in PDF format as attachments. This saves time and also costs on both sides.

it is important that the application documents are complete and free of errors.

The application documents contain:

  • Application cover sheet
  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Certificates
  • Certificates/ Deeds

When sending your application by post, you should make sure that the application folder is tidy and stable, that the documents can be easily removed and that there is a fixed order.

When sending by mail, make sure to use a serious e-mail address and choose a correct subject (e.g. “application” & the concrete description of the training place). Here the covering letter can also be sent in the mail.

what do you need to consider during your first interview?

The invitation to the job interview has arrived! Now it is time to convince the employer in a personal interview.

to reduce nervousness and to leave a good impression, good preparation is important.

An appropriate outfit is especially important. It helps if you inform yourself about the company dress code. That way you can avoid inconvenience. In some branches a suit or blazer is advantageous and in others a nice blouse or shirt with dark trousers is also okay.

good manners are essential.

This means politeness but also a smile and an upright posture are essential. If you would like to find out more about this, you are welcome to research “Knigge” on the web.

You should also find out more about the company. How is the company set up, what does the company produce and sell and how does it manufacture the products. Overall, you should have researched the most important key data.

expect questions about your strengths and weaknesses.

Think about what you want to say in advance. It is best to mention weaknesses that have little to do with your work in the training. If you can admit your insecurity or shyness, you will come across as sympathetic and honest in conversation, because any personnel manager can understand that. The step into professional life is exciting and new for you and you will become more independent and courageous through the coming professional challenges.
Mention in the interview the experiences you have had in similar companies, e.g. through internships or hobbies that have something to do with your career aspirations. During my A-levels I already did an internship in an industrial company, where I got good insights into the professional field. This was also the decisive point for my choice of career. Here I was able to give positive impressions of myself in the job interview with my experiences. At school we also got to know how to use computer programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In the job interview I was given the individual exercise “mail basket exercise”. This tested how I would behave under a certain time pressure. I was asked to prioritize tasks that had accumulated after a vacation. There are different test tasks that are carried out in a job interview or in a so-called assessment centre. If you are more interested, you are welcome to search the internet for assessment center exercises.

After the interview I would review the course of the conversation and draw conclusions. Because every job interview is also an exercise so that you can do even better at the next interview. Think about the questions you were not able to answer. But you should also consider your strengths in the interview. This will give you more self-confidence and a more confident appearance in the next interview.

dealing with cancellations

Of course, not everyone receives an acceptance directly after the first interview. There are too many applicants for that. This can frustrate you at first. Keep your head up.
You can learn a lesson and think about what you could do differently or better in the future. Every job interview is an exercise for you to develop yourself further. Also consider whether you would like to expand or change your career aspirations.

the professional world has so many possibilities. take advantage of them!

i hope my tips will help you and you will find your desired training place!

keep on trying!
